Seeing Double

August breezed away like the wind as the Founders Day of our beloved Silliman University went full blast with activities left and right. The church played a central role in reminding the people of Silliman’s mission as an institution called to serve the people as a response to God’s call.

In our website are links to two of our Guest Preachers sermons during the 8:00AM (Dr. Noriel C. Capulong) and 10:00AM  (Supreme Court Chief Justice Reynato S. Puno) Worship Services. Puno came as a guest of honor during the SULAW Awards and was invited to extend his stay to preach. Dr. Capulong is a resident faculty of the Divinity School.

Pastor Ditz (Hidita Castrodes-Villas), our Christian Education Pastor is swamped with all the preparations for the Christian Education Month this month of September. Last Sunday the kids told the congregations the story of Paul’s missionary journey as we celebrated Children’s Sunday. Next Sunday is Youth Sunday, so we expect to see the youth leading in our worship services. 

Yesterday was quite an eventful day for the celebration of the UCLEW. The yearly Galilean Fellowship ran full steam last night as about 37 faculty, staff and alumni families hosted around 600 freshmen students in their homes for the Bible study. Facilitators and song leaders led the Bible study and the hosts prepared delicious ’snacks’ which almost always seem to be more of supper than the usual snacks that we know of. The students learned and shared about how they see and have experienced Jesus as the Way, the Truth and the Life and did this either be drawing some sketches on the Manila paper or by way of reporting. They were divided in to three groups–the Way group, the Truth group and the Life group.

Indeed last night was a night that all participants will really remember as a unique and meaningful event in their life in Silliman University. We’ll do it again on Thursday night with another batch of around 600 freshmen students! To God be the glory!
